How much does a web site cost?

This is the first question we're often asked, although there are many things to think about (see our article Website ABCs). There is no simple answer, because it depends on what you want to do with your web site.

Here are the fixed costs that Prairie Skies Technical Services charges:

Hosting: $9.95/month or $100/year (includes one domain name registration/renewal) - we manage our own secure web server that is located in a secure data center with 24-hour monitoring for any potential problems
Additional spam filter service to provide extensive email filtering (optional): $40/year
Additional domain names: $15 each/year
SSL Certificates (for secure transactions -- puts the little gold lock in the lower right corner of your browser): $125/year or $250 for 3 years (we also offer a shared SSL that is free, and is fine for most organizations - contact us for more information)

Here are some basic cost estimates for web site design/development services:

Custom designed basic 3-5 page informational web site: $500-800
Ecommerce shopping site: $750-2,500
A custom content management system that allows you to edit the content of your pages, using a simple Word-like toolbar: $350-1250, depending on initial features

We can also develop custom, database-driven web sites with a secure administration area that allows you to update your web site anytime, starting at $1000. We have clients that manage major parts of their company/organization through their website.

Most sites that we develop cost in the $750-1500 range (plus fixed costs like hosting and SSL certificates if needed). We can design a simple one-page site to give you a web presence and email address for $300 (one-time cost, plus monthly or yearly hosting fees).
